Central Coast Aged Care Training and Recruitment Program provides new pathways for those impacted by COVID-19

With an ongoing demand for aged care workers on the Central Coast, a unique program has been established to connect locals with training and job opportunities in the sector.

As unemployment continues to rise on the Central Coast, Joblink Training, in partnership with Smart Training and Consulting Group, is delivering an Aged Care Training and Recruitment Program, which aims to create genuine career paths for suitable applicants who have lost their job as a result of the COVID-19 crisis.

The first component of the initiative is a pre-employment training program, which will introduce candidates to the sector over a six-week period via a series of Zoom sessions. Students will complete nationally recognised units of competency from CHC33015 Certificate III Individual Support during this introductory training.

Kylie Smith, RTO Operations Manager at Smart Training and Consulting Group, said that the program provides an opportunity to attract people to the sector who may not have previously considered a career path in aged care.

“There are so many people who have lost their jobs amidst the COVID-19 pandemic with skills that are highly transferrable. The aged care industry needs employees, and this is a great opportunity to introduce suitable candidates to the sector and provide a pathway to employment,” said Kylie.

“Candidates may then have  an opportunity to complete traineeships within local aged care organisations following the completion of the initial phase of the program, which is an opportunity to gain on the ground experience and a qualification via paid employment,” continued Kylie.

Central Coast aged care organisations that have committed to the initiative include PACE Aged Care Members Central Coast Community Care and Evergreen Life Care, as well as Catholic Health Care.

“This is about creating local opportunities for local people, and also local organisations. A lot of independent aged care organisations do not have the resources to conduct this kind of training on their own, so this program is a chance to connect them with skilled and available candidates,” added Kylie.

PACE Aged Care is proud to support this initiative, which aims to connect Central Coast aged care organisations to suitable candidates, as demand for aged care employees continues to grow. PACE has teamed with organisations including Aged Care and Community Service Australia (ACSA) to help promote the program in the region.
